Important considerations
Application: Apply in overlapping strokes for a rich, layered effect that mimics real stone. For best results, a primer coat of a similar color is recommended.
Indoor vs. Outdoor: While some products can be used outdoors, many are designated for indoor use only. Always check the product label.
Durability: For objects exposed to moisture, a clear top coat is recommended for optimal durability.
Cleanup: Clean-up is typically easy with soap and water.
To use Rustoleum stone texture paint, first clean and prep the surface, then shake the can for a full minute before spraying in light, overlapping, back-and-forth motions from 25-40cm away. Apply one light coat, wait about 15 minutes, and then add another coat for desired depth and texture. For best results, spray in a ventilated area and allow adequate drying time between coats.
Preparation
Clean the surface: Ensure the surface is clean and free of any dirt or debris before you begin painting.
Protect surrounding areas: Mask off any areas you don’t want to paint and protect your work area from overspray, as the paint can travel about 3 feet.
Painting
Shake the can: Vigorously shake the can for one full minute to mix the paint and hear the mixing ball rattle. Shake often during use.
Hold the can correctly: Hold the can upright, 25-40cm from the surface.
Spray in light coats: Apply the paint in a steady, back-and-forth, slightly overlapping motion.
Don’t over-apply: Avoid trying to achieve full coverage in one coat. The stone finish will vary based on the distance you spray.
Allow drying time: Wait for the first coat to start setting, which is about 15 minutes, before applying a second coat. Add additional coats if needed, waiting 15 minutes between each.
Aftercare
Clear the nozzle: Turn the can upside down and spray until the paint stops to clear the nozzle, which can help prevent clogging.
Let it cure: The paint will dry to the touch in 30-60 minutes, but it’s best to wait at least 24 hours before heavy use.
Consider a top coat: For extra durability, especially for outdoor items, you can apply a clear sealant after the paint has dried for at least 4 hours.
