Rust-Oleum Painters Touch+ Satin Steel Blue spray paint is a versatile, multi-purpose product designed for use on a wide variety of surfaces for both interior and exterior projects.
Primary Uses and Suitable Surfaces
The paint is ideal for refreshing, upcycling, and transforming various items around the home and garden. It can be applied to the following surfaces:
Wood: Furniture (indoor and outdoor), cabinets, doors, trim, and wicker.
Metal: Metal furniture, hardware, and other bare or previously painted metal items (bare metal should be primed first for best results).
Plastic: Most rigid plastics (abrading the surface slightly is recommended for better adhesion).
Masonry/Unglazed Ceramic: Plaster, brick, concrete, and unglazed ceramic pots or decorative items.
Other: It can also be used on plaster and is compatible with previously painted or varnished surfaces.
Key Features
Indoor/Outdoor: Formulated to be durable in both interior and exterior environments, resisting chips and fading.
Satin Finish: Provides a smooth, subtle mid-sheen look that helps minimize surface imperfections.
Ease of Use: Often available as a spray with an “any-angle” comfort tip for easy application, or in tins for brush/roller use.
Quick Drying: Typically touch dry in 20 minutes.
No Priming Needed on Most Surfaces: Many formulations act as a paint and primer in one, though a dedicated primer is recommended for bare wood or metal to enhance adhesion and prevent issues like rust.

To use Rust-Oleum Painters Touch+ Satin Steel Blue, prepare the surface by cleaning and degreasing it, then shake the can vigorously for at least one minute. Apply two or more light coats by holding the can 20-30 cm away and spraying in a steady back-and-forth motion, overlapping each stroke, with a few minutes between coats.
1. Preparation Clean the surface: Wash the area to remove dirt, grease, and grime. For painted surfaces, sand lightly to degloss and remove any loose paint.Prime the surface: For bare wood or metal, apply the correct Rust-Oleum primer for superior adhesion and coverage.Protect surrounding areas: Cover anything you don’t want to be painted to protect it from the spray mist.Ensure proper conditions: Work in a well-ventilated area between 10°C and 32°C and below 70% humidity. Avoid painting in windy or dusty conditions.
2. Application Shake the can: Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after you hear the mixing ball rattle inside. Continue shaking every few minutes while you spray.Start and stop past the object: Begin spraying just before the edge of the object and stop after you pass the opposite edge to avoid uneven spots.Spray with light coats: Hold the can 20-30 cm away from the surface and spray with steady, even, back-and-forth strokes, slightly overlapping each stroke.Apply multiple light coats: Apply two or more light coats rather than one heavy coat to prevent drips and runs. Allow a few minutes between coats.Allow for drying time: Let the first coat dry before applying the second, ideally within an hour. Allow 24 hours for full cure before heavy use.
3. Cleanup Clean the nozzle: If the nozzle clogs, remove the nozzle and wipe it clean.
