SPRAYPAINT PRIMER RED OXIDE 250ML (SPRAYMATE)
Spraymate red oxide primer is used as a rust-inhibiting base coat for ferrous metals like bare steel and iron, protecting them from corrosion and creating a level foundation for a topcoat. Its uses include coating gates, railings, and metal pipes, and it can also be applied to other surfaces like wood and masonry to improve adhesion and longevity before painting.
This primer is used in conjunction with Spraymate Microwave White Spraypaint.
Primary uses
Rust inhibition: Acts as a protective, rust-inhibiting layer on bare steel and iron surfaces.
Surface preparation: Creates a strong base coat for subsequent layers of paint, improving adhesion.
Suitable for metal items: Ideal for preparing objects like gates, railings, and metal pipes before painting.
Other uses
Diverse substrates: Can be used on a variety of materials, including wood, masonry, and plaster.
General primer: Serves as a general primer to prepare surfaces for any decorative topcoat.
To properly use Spraymate Red Oxide Primer, first clean and prepare the surface by removing dirt, grease, and rust, then shake the can for at least a minute. Apply a light, even coat from about 20-30 cm away using a steady, sweeping motion, and let it dry for 1-2 hours before applying a top coat.
1. Prepare the surface
Clean: Remove all dirt, grease, oil, and loose paint using a solvent like lacquer thinner or methylated spirits.
Sand: Lightly sand any glossy surfaces. Wire brush or sand away loose rust.
Dry: Ensure the surface is completely dry before painting.
2. Apply the primer
Shake: Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after the ball inside rattles.
Spray: Apply the primer in a light, even, sweeping motion from a distance of 20-30 cm.
Overlap: Overlap each stroke slightly to ensure an even finish and avoid runs.
Start and stop: Start your spray motion before the surface and stop after you’ve passed it to prevent over-application at any single point.
Multiple coats: Apply a second coat if necessary after the first has dried to your satisfaction.
3. Let it dry
Dry to touch: Allow the primer to dry for 1-2 hours.
Dry to recoat: Wait for the recommended drying time before applying a top coat, especially in cold, wet, or humid conditions.
