Description

Colortone deck varnish 5L is the Dark Oak 5L variant of Colortone’s water-based exterior deck coating for softwood timber. It forms a suede-finish protective layer and helps shield decking from ultraviolet exposure, rainwater and regular foot traffic. Because it is water based, brushes and rollers can be cleaned with water after use.

Application guide

First, remove existing coatings by sanding or with a suitable paint stripper. Then sand the deck properly and wash away dust, dirt and oil. Allow the timber to dry before coating. Stir the varnish well. Apply the first coat with a brush or roller after diluting it with 10% water. Next, apply two undiluted coats. Light sanding between coats can improve the final result. Finally, clean application tools with water.

Suitable use and practical notes

This coating is intended for exterior softwood timber decks. Colortone does not recommend it for cracked or heavily weathered softwood. For better drying, the manufacturer recommends applying it when the deck surface is cooler, such as early morning or late afternoon. Coverage and drying are approximate because timber and weather conditions vary. For Colortone deck varnish 5L, careful preparation and the full coat system are important.
