Description

Colortone Teak wood stain is the Teak 500ml variant of Colortone Wood Stain. It is a solvent-based decorative stain made for interior wooden surfaces. The lead-free, thinners-based formula contains a quick-drying dye. It develops colour while allowing the natural character of the timber to remain visible. It dries to a matt finish and is suited to resurfacing furniture, cupboards, wooden frames and other prepared interior woodwork.

Preparation and application

First, remove old coatings from the wooden surface. Next, clean away dust, dirt and oil, then allow the timber to dry completely. Shake or stir the can thoroughly before use. Apply the stain with a clean smooth cloth or brush. Then allow about 15 minutes of drying time before another coat. Additional coats can be used where more colour depth is required. However, each coat should dry before the next application.

Coverage and finishing

Colortone states approximate coverage of 5 m² per 500ml. However, actual coverage varies with timber porosity, preparation and application technique. Clean the cloth or brush with thinners after use. In addition, Colortone recommends sealing the stained surface with Wood Varnish or Floor Varnish. This provides the recommended final protective finish. Wood Stain develops colour, but it is not the final protective coating in Colortone’s recommended system.

Where to use it

Use Colortone Teak wood stain on properly prepared interior timber such as furniture, cupboards and wooden frames. The stain is useful when you want to refresh the appearance of real wood without covering its grain with an opaque paint. However, the final shade can vary with the original timber colour, absorbency and number of coats. Therefore, test a small inconspicuous area first when colour matching is important.
