Warm up and weatherproof

Warm up and weatherproof your home with DIY Hardware

As winter closes in on Cape Town, the wet weather usually arrives, (we hope), and this winter we want to ensure that all homes are weatherproofed and warm. In Gauteng, wet weather has been a complete summer experience and many are hoping that winter will bring a reprieve from the wet weather they experienced.

With weatherproofing in mind, we take a look at a number of products and techniques which will help you. So here goes.

Filling Cracks

Alcolin Crackfiller - a lightweight, non-shrinking, waterproof filler.

Alcolin Litefill

is revolutionary, ready-mixed polymer-based crack filler, which is extremely light in weight. It employs the latest technology, to give a professional smooth finish in a single application, leaving surfaces looking completely flawless.

Our advice: work quickly, have all your tools close by and work out what you need to do before you start.

Filla Foam

General guidelines when filling cracks with filla foam:

  • clear the surface and ensure that it is debris and dust free.
  • allow for expansion of the filla so don’t fill the cavity or crack completely
  • allow for curing time. Don’t rush the experience.
  • depending on the formulation of the products you are using, remember to use protective gear.
