DIY Storage ideas – ways to Organize your workspace

There are many sources of inspiration for DIY storage ideas – ways that you can organize your workspace and remove the clutter.  Our departure point was Pinterest.

But what is different for us is looking at the solutions that we find in our research and relating them to how we can create those with what we have in our garage or dropping into DIY Hardware – the Do It Yourself Shop – to get their help.

Simple storage ideas:

PVC Pipes

For an economical solution that one can easily put into practise, get some PVC piping and affix it to plywood or some old pieces of timber.

The benefit PVC piping is that usually you can find some piping lurking in a dark corner of the garage. Together with MDF, timber or plywood you can create a shelf or two upon which the storage units are affixed.

Alternatively, visit DIY and take along some bespoke measurements to ask Jacques or Patrick to help you have your cutting. We can cut, make or simply advise.

You have to admit this a pretty cool simple storage and organizing solution.

Store and Organize your hardware

No curse is greater in the garage than when the nuts and bolts lie grouped in one container without any organization. These storage containers have the due role of providing storage and organization.

Hooks and Shelves

When it comes to organizing and storing it is always nice to know that there are products which help you remember where you have placed the things you have made or purchased. Hooks and Shelves are two essentials which help you do this.

The range of hooks and mini hooks from Command are examples of products which help organize your workspace.

Similarly you will always find a rang of shelves and brackets at DIY which can be created into shelving as you need it.

Workbench Storage

What fun one can have creating storage from a traditional workbench. Consider the following ideas to make your workbench a great storage unit.

  • Add castor wheels. They add height and make the workbench movable.
  • Cover the shelf with hardboard and affix it to the woodstrips below to create a solid shelf
  • Add two box cupboards or crates to make cupboards and work ways to stabilize them. Or ask the DIY team to help you.

This is just the start to what you can do to create storage from a workbench.

Here are the first steps to making a workbench useful for storage too.
